Salvamento Marítimo IRIS

The Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima (SASEMAR), known as Salvamento Marítimo, is the Spanish public agency under the Ministry of Transport responsible for maritime rescue, marine pollution control and safety operations across Spanish territorial waters. IRIS was its first internal iOS app for staff communication and resource access.

The challenge

Salvamento Marítimo needed to provide its 1,600+ employees with a first internal iOS app that would centralize, into a single entry point, access to the employee portal, Incaweb, the virtual campus, and the organization's official websites and social media content.

No previous app existed: the architecture had to be designed, the app developed from scratch, and a first publishable, stable version delivered — with a maintainable codebase that the client could evolve with its own team going forward.

The solution

AtalayaSoft took on the iOS development of IRIS as a greenfield project, with Francisco José García Navarro as the only iOS developer assigned, embedded for several months under a senior iOS reinforcement model.

The scope of the work included:

  • Design and implementation of the starting iOS architecture.
  • Native Swift development applying Clean Code and SOLID principles to ensure a maintainable, extensible codebase.
  • Integration with internal resources: employee portal, Incaweb, virtual campus, official websites and social media content.
  • Testing and preparation of the app for distribution.
  • Delivery of the first version to the client for internal distribution.
